I have just this week completed eight 5x7 inch sketch cards(the biggest sketch card size I have ever worked on!) for Breygent Marketing and the Comic Con in San Diego next month. Boy, I wish I could go too. ;)
They've been fun to do, but I freely admit I'm not an accomplished comic artist.
I used watercolours, acrylic and pen for these cards.
I find the card stock tolerates watercolour, but tends to mute the colours somewhat, unless I use layers of colour. But then the surface breaks down a little if you use too much water.
Colour pencils struggle on this surface. The colours look very muted, though if you are after a softer look, then they're fine. I'm still finding ways to work with Breygent's card stock. It's pretty versatile.
Coloured ink pens are probably best if you are wanting to create vibrant coloured artwork, but I don't feel as confident using those yet- harder to correct mistakes!

Breygent ~ Golden Age of Comics ~ Base Set

I'm excited to have been included in the base set for Breygent's soon to be released Golden Age of Comics set. My card is Phantom Lady.

Wow, exciting times eh? New British Government, new Prime Minister and a Coalition. Who would have thought it? I pray it's the beginning of better times ahead and that the two parties can work together.
Working together for the good of the country has got to be good, rather than working against each other. Let's see if they can pull it off.

Right, politial rant over. :)

I seem to be on something of a Horror theme at the moment. The above cards were completed for a private collector recently. I'm also currently working on a set of large Horror and Sci-Fi cards for Breygent. Scans to follow, once I have approval.

I will be working on a new project shortly for another card company, which is also Horror related... as well as some special super large cards for Breygent.

Meanwhile, I'm catching up on private commissions when I can. There are some Lord of The Rings cards I'm hoping to get finished soon, as well as a painting of Christopher Ecclestone, and a proposed painting of all the 11 Doctors, which is there, completed in my mind and is, frankly an amazing testiment to my talent, heh! Just have to get it painted! Collecting photo reference as we speak.

I'm also in training for some charity runs. The first one is this weekend; a 5K one. I did a 3 and a bit mile run this morning and have been buzzing ever since! Then there's the big 10K in June. My aim is to run round, without stopping, in a decent time. Wish me luck!

Topps Empire Strikes Back Red Cards

...and here are the special red toned cards. For these, I used a red watercolour wash over a normal grey card, then worked over it in pencils and white acrylic paint.

Topps Empire Strikes Back Grey Cards

At last, I've finished the set for Topps; 45 special red cards and 55 grey toned cards.

All I want to do now is eat comfort food and sleep for a week!
But the work's piling up again already. No rest for the wicked. :)

Topps' Star Wars Empire Strikes Back

These are the first of my cards to be approved by Topps... the watermark is a bit of a pain to work with, though the card surface is great for pencils and watercolours.

These are my returns.
...and the final set of cards approved by Breygent.

More cards approved by Breygent, who are a pleasure to work with, and the best company I have worked with so far, in terms of professionalism and quality (and quantity) of information.

Wow, it's been a while. Last time I posted, there were still flurries of snow and blasts of arctic air plagueing us here in the UK. Now Spring seems to be springing at last. The chaffinches and wrens are trying to out sing each other in the back garden, the daffodils are out and we've even seen some sun. I love the Spring with it's sense of anticipation and new life everywhere.

I've been working on two sets of cards - one for Breygent Marketing(see examples), and another for Topps. Breygent is releasing the Golden Age of Comics, so I've been brushing up on my comic art skills for those. Topps is releasing The Empire Strikes Back, so I've been madly screencapping & familiarising myself with that movie too. I've nearly completed the Golden Age of Comics cards. They've been fun. The examples posted are the ones approved so far.
