Good luck all you bidders!

The limited edition prints are selling well on eBay. Only three left now.

I have begun selling the individual cards which make up the artwork used for the print. So if anyone would like a very special card, or cards to add to their collection...

the first Doctor is listed on eBay tonight:

Star Trekkin'...

A recent sketch card commission and a personal project. Pencils on card. I was pleased with how these turned out. :)
As mentioned previously, I have had a very, very limited run printed of the above artwork. Only 10 prints! All signed and numbered, and bevel mounted on black card. Dimensions are: 550mm x 310mm, including mount.

I have just listed a print on eBay and will continue to list them, until they are all sold. Only a few remain as I sold some at the Darwen and Fab Cafe events recently.

They would make great Christmas presents, so grab an exclusive!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250538300494&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

If you would like to order direct from me, the prints are £19.99 each, postage free. I accept Paypal orders.

I will be selling the individual sketch cards which make up the artwork on eBay shortly.

Yay! Finally managing to shake the flu off. Back to work today, playing catch-up. I feel like I've fallen so far behind! I've just had to turn down some work for January because I've got so much to do. Need to say 'no' more often, methinks! Then I might not get so worn out!

The three cards above went on eBay last night:

Worked hard on two nice sketch cards today. I'm really pleased with them. Will post them as soon as they are approved.

Only a short, three day listing, this one.
The Fab Cafe event in Manchester last weekend, was rather 'Fab', for want of a better word. 'Fans Like Us' once again put on a great show, and all their guests made it too! There was a great atmosphere, and it was lovely to be made welcome and see some familiar faces. I did some work while I was there, completing a couple of sketch cards, despite the poor light, while I listened to the various panels. Sylvester McCoy was on good form, as were Terry Molloy, Mary Tamm and Terence Dicks(who sounds more and more like Patrick Moore to me, these days), among others. Charlie Ross kept things lively as interviewer and compere. I got the impression the audience had a great time.

At the time, I didn't know it, but I was coming down with a nasty dose of flu, which completely knocked me flat for the rest of the week. I'm used to being able to soldier through illnesses and still be able to function on some level, but this had me completely at the mercy of friends and family, who had to step in and get my daughter to and from school. I don't know when I last felt so ill!

Thankfully I'm on the mend, if somewhat slower than I would like and my appetite is coming back too. Non too soon, as the work doesn't stop coming in, even when you're ill!

Eleven Doctors ...

This is a piece of art I've been working hard on for a couple of weeks.
I unveiled it last weekend at Darwen. It is made up of 12 separate sketch cards.
I have produced a very limited print run of 10 from this piece, and hope to sell the sketch cards individually, or as a set, depending on interest.
I tried a slightly different style with these portraits, incorporating more colour into the shadow areas and leaving other areas indistinct. I've been inspired by various fantastic comic book artists just recently...

Darwen Doctor Who Day

I was up in deepest Lancashire on Saturday for The Dalek day at Darwen. It seemed to be a success, despite a disappointing turnout and the last minute cancellation of a major guest. The 20 odd people who did attend though had a good time, with a great interview panel led by David Howe and his partner Sam Stone, which included Eric Potts, Adrian Mills, Deborah Watling and Delia Lindon. The Hyde Fundraisers had an impressive line-up of creatures on display. I was particularly impressed with the Judoon trooper and committed him to sketch card when he wasn't looking. Just over 200 pounds was raised on the day for Cancer research. My original drawing of Rosita from The Next Doctor {above} raised 42 pounds towards that total.

I've decided to attend the Doctor Who Day at the Fab Cafe this coming Saturday, here in Manchester, since I have some stock left from last weekend. :-}

You can find details of the event here:

I've revisited a more cartoony style with the monsters set, which is fun to do, and I have cybermen, cybershades and daleks lined up for future listings. I will be continuing with the fine pencil portraits too, with lots more coming up soon.

On eBay tonight:
The 3rd Doctor:
I'm currently working on something special for the Darwen Doctor Who day. I'll post scans as soon as I've finished. I'm hoping to have some special limited edition prints of a two new pieces of artwork, one of which will feature all the current Doctors, as well as some exclusive sketch cards.
For more info on the event, follow this link:

I've come to the conclusion that I'm not very good at taking rests, and is probably the reason why I've been battling an underlying exhaustion for the last few weeks, which I can't seem to shift. But the work keeps coming in(which I'm not complaining about!). There's a Doctor Who day coming up in Darwen on the 31st of October, which I'm hoping to have new artwork and prints for.
I've also agreed to do three more sets of sketch cards, two for Strictly Ink and one for a company I've not worked with before - the new, revamped Inkworks.
Then there are commissions to complete before Christmas and new Christmas card designs...there aren't enough hours in the day for me!

The two cards above I've just completed are in a Chris Achilleos style(apologies Chris!) for a collector. I'm pleased with how they turned out, though I can take no credit for the composition and style of them. :) I'm a huge admirer of Chris' work. I hope he doesn't come and shout at me...!

SketchCollectors.com

I've done a reworking of the original 'Fire'. Much happier with this one's likeness, and it's nearer to the feel I was aiming for, in terms of Spirit...

I've just recently joined a host of other Sketch card artists and collectors over at

I'm posting my best cards over there at the moment and may eventually try and post ALL the cards I've drawn since I became a sketch card artist, two years ago. That will be a job and a half, as there are a LOT of my cards floating around out there. Strange thought that...

Clone Wars completed!

Today I had my final set of cards approved by the guys at Topps, packed them up and shipped them out from my local UPS depot. Hopefully they'll reach New York in time for the deadline.
It's been a challenging 4 weeks doing these and with other stuff going on. But I enjoyed the work. I've never replicated cartoons on sketch cards before. I found it enjoyable and easier to get likenesses than from photos of actors.
Looking forward to getting back to other projects now. I have commissions lined up, a show coming up at the end of October in Darwin, Lancashire and 100 more cards to do for Strictly Ink.
No rest for the wicked!

Topps Star Wars Clone Wars season 1

Here is my first batch of cards approved by Topps. I'm a third of the way through doing them now. I've worked out I need to do 7 cards a day to make the deadline. I'm managing that so far.
I'm having fun doing these, enjoying a more loose, cartoony style. Unfortunately I can never do the quick five minute sketch which would justify the amount we get paid for these cards. :) The quickest I can draw a card, and be happy with it, is 25 minutes. I don't like doing scribbles, or even saving my best work for the 6 back I'm entitled to. I know of some artists who do that, but I reckon people are paying out for boxes of these cards, I don't want them to be disappointed with what they 'pull'. Also I see each card as a representation of me and my work. So they need to be good! :)

Back to work

Now that Rosie is happily settled back at school, I'm throwing myself back onto work with a vengence. I've been doing more work for eBay, extending my range from just Doctor Who to include other genres too. I've also been completing commissions and trying to clear the desk a bit, to make room for the latest cards to complete for Topps.
I'm down to do 100 + 6 returns for the Star Wars : Clone Wars set. I'm toying with the idea of a more loose style on these, maybe. More on that if it works out...
The above cards are on eBay from this week:

Bernice Summerfield book launched

Back in 2000, I was asked by Big Finish to paint a cover for the first Bernice Summerfield publication - a selection of short stories. Three more covers followed after that, then the format was changed and Adrian Salmon took over as cover artist for both the book and audio CD covers.

As a result, I have a little mention in Big Finish's new hardback book of Bernice Summerfield: The Inside Story. :)

Written by Simon Guerrier, the book has 320 illustrated pages and more than 300,000 words.
It chronicles the creation of former Doctor Who companion Bernice Summerfield, by Paul Cornell (Benny made her first appeared in the Doctor Who New Adventures release Love and War), and her ongoing development through a vast range of books and audios(in which she is played by Lisa Bowerman).

The book is a must for any Benny fan!

You can order a copy from the Big Finish website:

Strictly Ink Big Screen Doctor Who colour set.

While working on the Big Screen Doctor Who Mono set, I also completed 20 sketches on some left over blanks from the original Big Screen set.

Back to the real world!

Didn't manage to get much drawing done while I was away. Tried to relax instead, which is hard to do when you're used to being busy, busy, busy all the time!

Was nice being by the sea and soaking up the sun for a bit, and getting away from Monsoon Manchester! :) Luckily there are a few coastal areas in this country, which don't have rain all through the summer!

The above sketch was done at Runswick Bay on the north east coast, north of Whitby.

Strictly Ink Big Screen Doctor Who Mono set #1

Here are the 80 cards I produced for the Strictly Ink Mono Big Screen Doctor Who set.
Got a bit carried away with doing 2 and 3 card sets. Oops! Will restrain myself next time.

These three cards are up on eBay this week. The link for the David Tennant one is here:
I will be away on holiday for a week from this coming weekend, so this is the last chance to pick up a sketch card or two for a couple of weeks. I won't be listing anything while I'm away.
I have just completed 80 cards for the Strictly Ink Big Screen Doctor Who Mono set, due to be released in August. I will display them here as soon as they are approved.
Here's to the return of the 'Barbecue Summer' we've been promised, and soon!
Manchester seems to be in the middle of monsoon season right now!

I'm currently collecting lots of pic reference. Have loads of ideas for portraits of him and his new companion. Hopefully will have finished my cards for Strictly Ink by this Friday. I've done about 90!

Itching to get on with new projects now. :)

A few of the cards I will be sending off to Strictly Ink hopefully at the end of next week. Hoping to complete at least 80 for this set. Am having to work hard to finish them in good time, plus keep on drawing my own cards for eBay. They're selling well at the moment.

Many apologies if the html links don't work, I seem to have a few gremlins messing with my system!

Hi and welcome to my newest follower(that sounds wrong somehow), Dis-cix. Good look with the allotment! I have tubs of potatoes, tomatoes, sweet red peppers and carrots coming along nicely in my back garden. No time for an allotment, unfortunately. :)

On eBay this week, and I'm trying something different. I'm combining Buy It Now's and Auction pieces. Just to see what happens.
I've had a couple of enquiries about purchasing cards without having to bid for them, which gave me the idea.
It might mean an increase of my turnover though. In other words I'll have to work even harder!
The 11th Doctor and his new companion:

Some of the many faces of Davros...

Another recently completed commission. This is pencil and acrylic on A4 board.

A recently completed commission ~ two sketch cards. I remember watching Juliet Bravo, many moons ago!
